Beach
I took these pictures in late August and early September of 2019, on Ballston Beach on Cape Cod.
It was the last summer before Covid changed our lives, and robbed us of our innocence.
As if they knew without knowing that something was coming, something dark and stormy and unsettling, people stayed on the beach longer and later into the day and the season, seemingly unaware of the looming clouds, the darkness falling, the fog moving in, lingering in these last precarious moments of carefree leisure perched on the edge of the vast and unpredictable ocean.
All photographs are archival pigment prints in editions of 10.
